EXPLORE is a three-day program designed for young people aged 12–17 who have been impacted by cancer - whether through their own diagnosis, a close family member’s illness, or the loss of a loved one.
Grounded in the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), the program helps participants build resilience by focusing on strengths, knowledge, and practical skills to navigate the challenges cancer brings. It’s also a valuable opportunity to take a break from the cancer experience and connect with others who truly understand what they’re going through.
During the course of the program participants will get the opportunity to unpack their cancer experience with the support of other young people, discussing their emotions and exploring when and how to reach out when things are tough.
EXPLORE is open to all young people aged 12-17 year-olds dealing with their own diagnosis, a close family member’s cancer or the death of a loved one.

Outcomes of EXPLORE
Explore is designed to be a fun and accessible introductory psychosocial program, which aims to:
- Strengthen young people’s social and emotional coping skills.
- Provide opportunities for supportive peer connections.
- Familiarise young people with the therapeutic group work setting.
- Improve young people’s confidence in seeking future support and knowing when and where to get support.
- Give young people a break from day-to-day life to connect with others, and enjoy moments of fun.
In the latest evaluation of the EXPLORE program, 100% of participants said they would recommend the program to others, and 90% indicated they would attend future psychosocial programs to help them cope with their cancer experience.
